The Ashley River is just on the other side of this small marsh pond. A dike and trail separate them. The pond water and levels are maintained through an open dike trunk. On a curve in the river, it is still tidal here coming up from Charleston allowing the ponds levels to move along with the tide, if the trunk is open.

Many of the birds in the nearby rookeries fly here to hunt, to feed the nesting young birds. If your timing is good you can catch a nice selection of wading birds. If not, it’s a nice long walk in the southern sun.
