I spotted this young bird through an open hole in the leaves of a Cypress Tree. This is a true ‘almost’ ready to fly chick.
The chick has lost most of the white down feathers, yet the juvenile brown color is not there yet either. I don’t see this age very often.

Young Black-crowned Night Heron in a Cypress Tree.
Great capture!! 🍃🤩
Spotted him by chance, but I’ll take it.
Very cool, I have not experience these “age” either and the palish coloring caught my eye before reading your explanation.
I see juvenile often, but always a few months older. Luck I spotted this one.
