On the trail coming back from the marshes and river you walk along beside a cut, and at one point cross a small bridge with a huge Live Oak branch just about face height.
Why would I grab a shot before continuing… the Resurrection Fern covering the branch, and some Spanish Moss.
Resurrection Fern attaches to a tree and absorbs water along the branch and the air. When hot and dry the plant shrivels and turns brown. Get a bit of humidity, fog, or rain it ‘resurrects’ itself and comes back to life…thick and green.
Its a southern swamp thing, like Spanish Moss, and very cool. A fun factoid.

I’ve always liked Resurrection Fern – I first became aware of it as it blanketed the branches of a Live Oak that Great Horned Owls were nesting in. Have you seen it on anything except Live Oaks? Here’s an interesting bit of trivia: In 1997, a resurrection fern was taken into space aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery to watch its resurrection in zero gravity.
Sending it to space is very cool !!!!! As for other than Live Oaks… a good question. Now I will need to look and see. LOL
