Active rookeries are loud. There can be hundreds, maybe thousands of young chicks screaming to be fed. We expect that.
However, when we first walked towards the new Wood Stork rookery it was different. The volume was at a whole new level.
Now, the chicks are even bigger. Yep, even more noise.

Shocking to see the Wood Storks nesting among all the other smaller wading birds. And this one right up along the wooden walkway through the wetlands. I’ve never seen any nest like this.
