I try to add some diversity to the articles here, mix up the subjects / photographs in the hopes of making things more interesting. One subject that I love to shoot are the local Alligators. Lately I have not been giving them much attention, however around here that’s easily fixed.
Below are several gators photographed recently in the ACE Basin marshes.
The first is best viewed large to see not only the alligator looking directly at me, but also the small Dragonfly sitting on the reed between us.
Finding some to photograph is usually fairly easy, at least this time of year.
Its always best to remember these are wild animals and to give them space. Right now we still do a pretty good job of coexisting.
Great shots. I won’t be viewing it large though…I am just fine when they are small 😁
I typically use a long lens, so being close is a relative thing.

I prefer the first too. I think the old saying ‘familiarity breeds contempt’ is something to be aware of. It’s very easy for us to bump into one too close.
Isn’t it odd how we almost become comfortable seeing ‘gators all the time? Though in reality, it’s their environment, we are just visiting.
I was just writing something like that. It’s too easy to get ‘relaxed’ around them. I try to keep that in mind.
