Decades ago the main dike road must have had a major repair. Truthfully I can’t imagine how they made it as sturdy as it is.
When the salt marsh is extremely low old logs, pylons, and trees get exposed. The big wading birds take full advantage of places small fish hide.

Usually the birds see you coming from a distance and might just leave before we get any photographs. Right now tall grass hides us long enough for a few quick shots.

Other times a bird completely ignores you…like this one.
