Pretty much what you expect really, it must have been horrible.
I think this building would be one of the worst. The kitchen and laundry were down below. Fires were kept burning constantly. Summer nights here are what you would expect. Hot and humid, and living above a stove would be brutal.
And probably still is in parts of the world, both third and first.
