The old track runs along side, or on top of, several of the big dikes running through Bear. These are the spots that even if you wander here often you don’t get to see but maybe once a year or so.

Is Bear Island just a name, or are there actually bears roaming around?
Not only do we not have Bears in the Lowcountry, calling this an island is a stretch. Our coast is a series of real islands, barrier islands in the Atlantic, and land masses that are surrounded by rivers and deep cuts…technically an island since they touch the ocean at some point 😆. I live 19 miles from the center of Charleston, but must cross a series of rivers, islands, (and modern homes) to get there. At times you go left to go right…takes a while getting anywhere.

Part of a dirt track that is usually closed behind those big red iron farm gates. The morning of this shot I took out the backup camera, 12-100 shorter lens, an ignored wildlife for interesting scenes. You just never know when (if) you will ever get back there again.
