Green Herons can stay in the same position for hours, then suddenly dive / grab a small fish passing by.
I love to photograph them, but I just can’t wait all day for a single photo. I would implode. I need to be in the right place, right time.

That’s probably not a position you see every day, really beautiful shots and absolutely stunning!
Thanks. These small Herons have all kinds of tricks like this for catching fish. One of the only birds that are known to use bait !
Excellent capture! The timing is perfect.
Thanks so much. I’ve seen them do this, sooner or later I had to catch one LOL. Makes up (a little) for all the butt shots.
I’d say you were, nice 😊👏
Thank you 😁😁. These are the classic Green Heron shot. Unfortunately it was real dark and I’m not as flexible as I once was. I did catch a lot of photos, but I went with these. More light would have helped the detail. That said… very cool 😝😝
That last shot is incredible, Ted!!
🙏🙏 thanks so much. The old ‘hold the button down’ technique.
That is fascinating, I thought it was something else first, great action shots Ted.
Thanks. These small Herons are acrobats. This is one of their usual tricks, but you never can get a shot because they’re so hidden away.
very nice
Thanks so much 😁😁😁
Amazing.
Thanks 😊😊. The Greenie shot we all try for each year, but hardly get. I can’t get down low any more so I look for the angles. I actually had about 10 more shots to go with this series, but you know, only post a few LOL. If the weather is good I plan on heading to that rookery tomorrow morning. Might get lucky a second time. If not the baby Wood Storks should be standing up by now.
