Black Water River, The Ashley

Black Water River, The Ashley

The Ashley River is nearby the house, and I’ve taken a good many landscapes on its banks. It’s always mentioned with the historic plantations here also so I wondered if there was anything else I could say about it😏.

The Ashley is a black water river, I didn’t know;

Black water rivers are slow acidic water ways that get their color and sheen from the swamps and marshlands they flow through. Also known for their wildlife that thrives in that environment. That explains a lot.

Also, the world’s largest Black River is the ACE Basin, specifically the Edisto (the letter E in ACE…Ashepoo, Edisto, Combahee). The basin is mentioned here even more than the Ashley.

Charleston is down stream, and not very far either.. maybe 20-25 miles. So close Dolphin venture up here during high tide.

Now that I’ve written about the black water I’m going to need to dig much deeper for some new info, or stop photographing it LOL.
