Follow The Light

The light is dim and the stairs creak a bit.

One of my favorite wanders, an 1850 stair case and statuette light.

    1. Owned by a museum this property is amazing. It’s preserved as a snap shot of 1850, pre US Civil War. There is the original Victorian wallpapers, gas and candle lighting fixtures, door knobs…just everything. Historians and architects can study ‘the bones’ of the buildings since parts of building itself are exposed.
A few places are roped off to protect furnitures, and other items. However for the most part I can wander freely. A good zoom lens with a wide f stop means you can get the details of almost anything. There is always a ‘dig’ of some kind happening too.

    1. Charleston and Savannah were close to the same until the early 1800’s. I recently read the population of each city went different directions. Savannah became more of an artistic and urban town. Charleston was taken over by the plantation owners and followed a wealthy planter and (slave) trader environment.
