The ACE Basin is usually shown here with the large marshes and swamps that has made the area home to an enormous amount of wildlife. However the rivers and marshes that make up the basin feed into the Atlantic Ocean through thousands of inlets.
Botany Bay started out as three different plantations, they eventually became one, and finally a state owned preserve as part of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
Low tide in the bay opens the paths to one of the states most beautiful ‘bone yards’. A shore of old trees only accessible for a few hours each day.
These photographs were taken at sunrise in the ‘bone yard’. It requires a quick hike but this is what you find at the end of a snady trail.

Timing is everything. The middle of Low Tide needs to be right at sunrise. Any long exposure shots can’t be too long. Easy to get trapped with the rising water.
These shots were from a morning a few years ago, when I first started using Olympus. Other shots were previously published, but I took a lot of photos. In 2023 my neck was ‘rebuilt’ and I lost use of my right hand. Anyway I took all these shots but then couldn’t use a mouse 😆. I wanted various new files to use while I am learning ON1 as a new editor. I found thousands of them. 😆😆 Pretty funny how that worked out.
I can’t imagine having that many photos in reserve.Timing and location and talent of course 😊
I’ll go with location 😁. That one location offers the bone yard, open marshes, big oaks with Spanish moss…for about 1/2 mile dirt road, a few small swamps. And after you leave the state land southern roads with small towns, churches, places to eat… you get the picture lol. A days outing with easily 1,000 images and minimum 500 really nice ones because of location. This is why we dropped everything and moved here, 10 years ago last month. 😁😁

Thanks. Around here they are called Bone Yards. I had never heard of one until moving here. They are a magnet for photographers lol
