Country Gator
While out in the marshes the other day we were out in the open and came across ‘country gator’.
See how healthy (large) he is compared to the ones I photograph in the swamps. I tend to call the swamp Alligators ‘city gators’.
This fellow won the ‘chunky gator’ prize for the day. That is one very fat head!
In The Early Morning
At this early hour there is not much light, no real color or contrasts.
We have a hint of green from the duck weed, and the Alligator making a trail through the water. It’s very cool…

Marsh Colors
These rust and brown colors will be gone soon.
The winter scenes and colors are nicer here than the dark stick season I remember in the northeast. The marshes aren’t drab, just the opposite. A nice honey color covers everything until the dense greens of the hot weather kick in.

Early Light In A Swamp
Interesting in what you see, or don’t, early morning.
The water didn’t really have any color, because it’s dark you don’t notice it. When light finally hits the surface it’s just flat. Then the alligator stands out.
This photograph had the exposure lightened just enough to see the gator.

Hiding In Plain Sight, Alligator
Taken the other morning, after the sun was up but still early.
Look close and you will see only his eyes are clear and not hidden. Amazing how it fits right into the swamp.

Dripping With Duck Weed, Alligator
There’s no way this Alligator could have avoided the weeds. The waters surface is almost solid.
It’s like something was poured over him, head to tail.
Early Morning Gator
Completely encased in thick duck weed.
As if it wasn’t hard enough to see him in the dark morning, they get covered in the weeds.
