These flowers here don’t react very well to sun light.
The white flower will be gone, wilted away, within the hour. The conical blossom will just sit, covered in a thin layer of plant. Come dark it opens to be a huge flower.
This may be the only image I’ve taken in sun light 😐.

For about 10 years I’ve looked at this scene. At first there were just a few construction cranes. Over the years the site went from a wild march to a large shipping terminal.
Every time I look, or take a shot, nothings happening. Same look. I just could not get an interesting photograph. They were boring.
The photograph needs the story, which you can’t see, Nothing is happening. The cost of nothing is between $ 1.2 to 1.7 ‘billion’ dollars, for nothing happening.
A union moved into the half built terminal. Charleston has many terminals like this, none with a union. Now one came and halted the final construction. Unions have a place, but they were not here so the costs were not part of the plan.
The large container ship companies at one point decided they did just fine without this terminal. None would contract for the extra fees.
So… The state closed, or never opened, this large deep water facility. No ships want to pay the extra fee when 1/2 mile down the harbor are multiple alternatives.
The boring scene needed a story and it was there all the time.

As the summer goes on (it’s still summer here) these vines are growing taller and thicker. Most mornings now find the blooms high up, maybe 7-8 feet. The angles are certainly different.
I have gone back to testing/learning ON1 PW with version 2026.5. They seem to have the integration issues settled back down and working. That was my biggest complaint.
Below was finished completely in ON1. A simple edit, but I did drop a mask to make all colors soft. I didn’t need a mask, except to see if it worked and had no issues. It was fine… and again fast. Adobe Lightroom owns the market because it has advanced features and they usually work just fine. ON1 is here because it does the same work flow, including with other software, and it does not hit the wall and make me sit and stare waiting for it to catch up.

I noticed her on plants alongside the house. It was a clear shot and she looked just about ready to jump. Catching an Anole in mid jump is harder than getting a bird at take off. These little guys just spring, no tell at all.
I haven’t used any flash units in years. Shoot a wedding, you need flash. Shoot a Heron, no flash. However over time I’ve seen people I know using flash for macro photography. Ellen likes different styles of photography so having seen a video on the GODOX iT32 (new design methods) I gifted her one for a birthday.
Turns out they are a great idea and great fun. And of course I had to have one too 😆.
When the sunlight is gone, and as long as you can see to focus, is a good time to shoot random ‘stuff’. I’m also not against trying in camera custom filters. Some shots are interesting, others not so much.

When you’re this small you probably learn pretty quick ways to blend in, not be seen.
This particular one is a great choice. Tall stalks are a favorite night time hiding place. Most times we need to look close to find one, and we know they will be there. The Anole can look like any other stick or branch.
All kinds of things are wandering around out back every night. We hear them, sometimes see them slinking around. Good habits turn small Anole into big ones.
Old cemeteries and monochrome photography just seem to go together.
The style of these images goes back to when I was shooting the old New England cemeteries, long archived from this web site. I did find a few shots like this taken in South Carolina while we were looking around considering a move here in 2016.
I remember having an online conversation with Keith Goldstein a respected NYC Street Photographer (For Earth Below) about how the look here reminded him of another photographer. At least it confirms I’m not completely crazy.
So I guess my love of old cemeteries goes back a ways and at least I’m consistent on how I visualize them 😊.
The images here were uploaded to the site about a month ago. Just this morning we walked around this area.

I guess if you’re a small bug he does look like an Alligator.
He was crouched down and staring at something intently.
His green was really vivid and sharp.
