Swamp landscape photography 101, don’t shoot wide. Close focus subjects only. Too much clutter and scenery competing for your eye.
That said here I publish some wide cypress and swamp images. Standing there you are convinced the perfect photo is right there.
The locations are beautiful.
I keep trying because some people (like me until I moved) will never see anything like this. And…it may be gone forever…

I frequently go into the Everglades and struggle with the same problem. It seems like the beauty is in the clutter because it wouldn’t be the Cypress swamp without the clutter. Going macro is one possibility but, as my daughter said when she lived in Switzerland, taking a photo of the Alps is like taking a photo of a daisy one petal at a time. As your images illustrate, I think having a defined focus within the context of lush growth is the key. But I still end up with a lot of photos to delete because they just didn’t capture what I was experiencing.
Very well said. I have shot closeups of individual subjects in the swamps and some came out nice…but it was not the swamp as I was seeing it.
It is similar to shooting in the thick New England woods. Clutter makes it the woods. I tried for years and had success once (I thought).
