A Yellow Billed Kite (2)

Plucking the food from the trainers fingers, this Kite never landed or slowed down.

Kites hunt and catch their prey in the air.

This Kite will feed much the same as in the wild, except trainers will toss food in mid air, or like the image above, hold a small piece of meat to the snatched on the fly.

The images below follow the Kite flying in to capture the food, in flight.

The photograph below shows the bird at the moment he grasps the small piece of meat while still in flight. This was from a second pass to get additional food.

The Kite will eat (see below, eating while flying) while still in flight hunting for the next small prey. This is how they are able to travel thousands of miles.

The Center For Birds Of Prey is a rescue, rahab, and educational facility outside Charleston. All photographs were taken at their location April 22, 2018.
