These photographs are more along the line of my typical ‘walk about’ images. The streets of town and the incredible scenes found on any given day.

It’s common here to find vines working along the front steps. However, it does take a lot of work to keep them from taking over.

On the right side of this door you can see a wooden plaque with cover. Houses on the US Historical Registry, or in the Charleston registries will have a short history outside the home. Tourist walk the side streets and this gives them a sense of what the town is all about.

Many old houses will have an alley or drive to other homes behind theirs. Old out buildings and carriage houses are now private residences.

Above, on the right side of the building is a metal ‘x’. These are earthquake bolts added after the city had a few big ones in the 1800’s. They help stabilize the structure.

  1. Thanks, Ted. We were planning to visit Charleston at spring break, but coronavirus put paid to that. Your photos give some idea of what we missed!
