This bird is sitting on what was the busiest branch in a thriving rookery. Each April the smaller wading birds (Snowy Egrets, Little Blues, Night Herons, etc.) would nest here on three small islands.
It was chaos with adults teaching young to fly all around here. If you look back to 2018 or earlier on this site there are hundreds of images from this exact spot.
About two years ago not a single bird came back to nest. I have no idea why. Good news being many just moved up to the larger bird rookery. But not near as many, and the photo ops are far less where they nest now.
There is a lot less water here now so I seriously doubt they will ever come back to nest. But it was amazing while it lasted.
