From one of those lucky surprise finds.
This Stork was one of hundreds nesting on a series of inaccessible islands in Georgia. The Wood Stork is a great success story. They were once on the brink of disappearing.

At this location there were very few nesting in the 1990’s. By building up protection and nesting spots (both Georgia and South Carolina) has increased their numbers so they are no longer endangered.
Flying with their 6 foot (1.8 meter) wing span is so loud you may hear them long before seen.
Always nice to hear news like this. Nice shot too.
Thanks. We need a few success stories
It’s nice to hear their calls especially when they are flying. The bird is so impressive in its flight!!!
