Every wildlife photographer knows this bird and how incredibly shy they are. I have gotten some fairly decent shots over the years. I have had huge dry spells in between too.
Here I applied rule #1, get the shot first and then setup for the next. Basically get what is offered because it might just disappear.

I grabbed the first opportunity while he was busy yelling at the world.
As expected he spotted me and was instantly gone 😂.
One of my favorite birds – easily recognizable from the “yelling” – you are right though, if they see ya’ coming you only get to take pictures of their backs.
