While out shooting the various Egrets around the shallow marshlands Great Blue Herons keep their distance. Basically a solitary bird these large groups of Egrets push them out to the far edges.

Each time we walked along finding quiet spots a Great Blue cold be seen. This bird was closer to the trail than most allowing a few good opportunities.

Above, behind the heron you can see a flock of Common Gallinule. Those red ‘vinyl’ looking bills give them away. Gallinules are everywhere so others don’t pay any attention to them, unless you are a raptor.
