Common Gallinule In The Reeds

Common Gallinule In The Reeds

A Common Gallinule, or chicken of the swamp, lives a dangerous life. They walk along and through the reeds and tall grass, exactly where Alligators thrive. And yet you see them everywhere out here.

This is a November day, and below is Gallinule chick. I guess this is why they survive so well. I don’t know of any other birds still having young.

  1. This is a very interesting bird! I have never seen it before. These are fabulous photos. It was so enjoyable to look at them, especially at the mother and her chick.

    1. The Gallinule is a close relative of the Coot. Another common marsh bird. Until a few years ago the Gallinule was called a Marsh Hen. I guess that was a name too easy to spell, so it was changed to Gallinule. Which nobody can spell 😂😂
