Reddish Egrets have one of the smallest habitats in the US. The coastal salt marshes in the far southern end of the country.
Its not surprising to have people questioning just what a Reddish Egret is. We typically find one or two in the Lowcountry each summer. This bird was photographed at Merritt Island, Fl.

They seem to be very rare, I always see just one on the gulf coast in the marsh area. Never two, only one.
They seem to be solitary birds though I find multiples in the Merritt Island Fl area.
These birds are very susceptible to the toxic algae when it forms. Unlike other birds they have a tiny range, never leaving the salt marshes. Sanabel Island Fl track their reddish and the yearly death rate is high.
