Egrets In A Local Swamp

Egrets In A Local Swamp

Below are a few random photographs taken in our local swamp rookery. I’ve grouped them together here since they all are darker, we get less light in this swamp many times. Makes for a different look than say the open glare of the new growth Port Royal or the Palms of Florida.

The first photo is a bird tucked into a small island of palmettos and oaks. Usually the larger birds want Cypress here, however several trees were lost over the winter so this is where they went.

The next two are the typical Egret flights returning with nesting materials. Like the big herons they start out low to the waters surface and climb up at the last minute. That may have something to do with openings in the branches for a safe landing.

This active nesting should continue for at least another month. About then it’s time for a new hard drive.
