Crash may be too harsh a description, but their landings aren’t graceful either. Better, they try to land up close and personal to other storks.
This series is a good example to a typical Wood Stork landing. He flew past me then turned to drop down to join a few other storks.
He avoided two Alligators, and of course dropped down almost on top of the other storks. One of the storks had to jump out of his way.

I am sure the other storks are fully aware of their ability to stick the landing and braced for the collision ha.
It’s funny but hardly ever do the others get upset when one drops on their head.
