If out walking in a swamp and the weather is ‘not perfect’ do you go home? Well, depends. Pouring rain and I’m gone. Otherwise shoot what you can, see what you get. Especially fog.
First is a Great Egret sitting on the edge of a swamp pond. There are a good number of snags there, from here they sit and watch.

Next a Great Blue Heron coming directly to me. This bird was heading off for sticks. Usually this is a shot to ignore. There is not much for the camera to focus on, and it’s moving fast. This time I tried, and hit focus.

A pair of Red-shouldered Hawks in the tree line besides the second big swamp. Dull fog background but these raptors have nice color. The Red-shoulders nest here by the rookery, but I have not had many opportunities, so take the shot.

Another Great Egret. They walk the swamps edge here hoping to shake something out from the brush. Looking for Frogs would be my guess. Ellen recently captured a nice series of a Little Blue with a Frog along here.

On this morning there was plenty to see and photograph, the gear is water resistant, and if things turned bad we live nearby.
That Blue Heron in flight, superb and sharp as nails ! Just out of curiosity, what was your shutter speed for that flying heron ?
That was at 1/640, slow for sure. Typically in low light I’m at 1/1000, 1/800. Again slow but Herons fly slower and I’m OK with a lower keeper rate. A trade off. Thanks, have a good day.
Thanks Ted ! you to have a great day.
Mystical surrounds, a whole new view of the swamp. 😎
Yes, hides the muck a bit.
That is exactly why we buy the “sealed” level for all our equipment, to be able to spend time in conditions like these. Fun to experience different weather conditions and kinda gives that Baskervilles feel to these shots.
Leica and OM have about the highest sealed values, but it makes them stiff to zoom and swap a lens. A trade off I guess.
First shot was fantastic, as if straight out of a dreamy landscape. Beautiful. 👌🏼
It’s like out of this world. You have captured it so well.
Thank you very much. Fog makes for great images, or when you look later you have no idea what you shot 😁😁😁
