Walking Around Old Middleton Plantation

Around Middleton Plantation

Last week we walked around the Middleton Plantation property, two days in a row. Even though we live nearby I don’t think I’ve ever done that before. Spring is when the plantation shines, this year was especially nice.

Below are a few random photographs taken as we did a ‘walk about’. I think this will be the only way to even publish a few of the images from this year.

  1. I’ve heard people saying that we shouldn’t visit plantations or have weddings at them because of their past, but I think it is good to keep the places alive along with their history, we should never forget.
These are gorgeous photos Ted, looks like it was a great day for it.

    1. The plantations are now one of the places that is keeping the real story alive. The current US administration is changing how and what history is discussed. Crazy 😳. Magnolia has worked with many people to have educational programs. An acquaintance of mine has an organization that makes a point of spending the night in existing slave quarters, has a book out ‘Sleeping with the ancestors’, and has helped at Magnolia a lot. This plantation, Middleton’, had a guide whose great, etc. grandmother was listed in the original slave book as working in the kitchen. He found that when moving here from Philadelphia.

Much like the UK, these property take huge amounts of money to keep up. Public (tourists) keep these places alive.
