This is their first spring/summer in the wetlands and they appear to be unsure of where to settle in.

I agree. They actually seem to be considering breeding here. My local swamp has two active Spoonbill nests. No sign of little ones though. While we are hot humid South, it’s not South America type South. I don’t think they have seen any nesting north of Florida on the east coast.
