The other day we went down to the marshes in the ACE Basin. We were not in a hurry and arrived mid morning. Not a great time for birds, but anything else might be out.
First look below was by a wooden trunk. The gate was closed so no water moving, but the surface was also flat in places hidden from the wind.

Walking a little, this next view is the same trunk but a different angle. Look along the far edge of the reeds and you can see the first wildlife of the day. (best viewed large).
At least three mid sized Alligator were just across the gap. This time of year they would be out, unfortunately high water limits our views.

A little bit later Ellen pointed off to the open water, she said there were a large number swimming off.
By the time I got over to an open view most had gone into the reeds. Still I count six in the distance. We can walk (me hobble) that line of reeds along the water. It’s actually a dike. However it wasn’t mowed making it a little sketchy ie; hidden gators, snakes, and the worst…ticks.

This was how the rest of the morning went. Limited birds, however unlimited Alligators. That’s not a bad day for me.
