Almost Overwhelmed By Spanish Moss, Great Egret

These big trees heavy with Spanish Moss are one of the first sights that greet us as we enter the open marsh areas we like to photograph. With luck we have company like this, a sign there’s at least a little activity there.

  1. It’s fun, I’m Spanish and didn’t know until now that is named Spanish moss. I did a search and found out it is in tropical and subtropical climates, so not in Spain, lol. I guess it got that name by some other reason.

    1. 😁, yes the name did. The Spanish settled the far southern US, further north French and British settled. The early French thought the moss looked like the long beards of the Spanish Conquistadors. The US states of Florida and Georgia were Spanish, Georgia and South Carolina were British.
