Of all the wading birds the Reddish Egret is the one with the ‘best moves’. They dance and work hard for the tiny minnows they love to catch.

Below, a Great Egret returning to the nesting location and mate.
The mate seemed excited to see the other bird. Egrets are very different from the Great Blue Herons. Great Blues always recognize their returning mate, if another Heron tries to settle in they are aggressively sent away.
Great Egrets may do this, they can also be unsure if the returning bird is their mate. Almost like they need to reintroduced all over again. 🤣

Every year there’s a period of time when the bigger wading birds are focused on nest building in the local swamp.
For us this means many more opportunities to photograph them going about their daily business.

This Egret had gone into the smaller nearby swamp to root out a treasure for the ongoing construction.
