Sent For Sticks, Don’t Want To Say I Told You So
So…. I waited around for his return trip, out of the thicker swamp.
The wild squawks, and big splashing, told the story.
This guy came out of the thick palmettos fast and loud.
I didn’t see the action since it was behind the wall of palms. The Heron was moving out fast though.
Alligators are not very interested in food this time of year. I can only imagine the bird stepped on him, even poked him, to start any type of argument.
View the above large and you will see one wide eyed Great Blue Heron.
That encounter certainly got his attention!
Sent For Sticks, But Bad Choice
Trees and forest everywhere, but he goes into the deepest swamp…’things that go bump in the night’ type swamp.
This, and others to follow, was taken in a spot I don’t visit often. It’s probably the first to get leaf cover and other places I pass are open.
Anyway, I wanted to see any nesting on this far end.
As I arrived this male was sent packing, get materials. He went for the closest spot. I believe the ducks above are Gadwalls.
The swamp scene was very pretty. In this dull day all the colors were there, no glare drowning out anything.
Instead of stopping at the edge, he went straight in. I’m sure this bird has been in there plenty of times. however…
End Of Day
They always wait until the last minute, end of day, to give you the best opportunities.
A Heron Glide
This Great Blue flew by fairly close and began the usual climb up to a rookery cypress.
Most times they just glide up to their nest locations. It’s deceiving though and they appear to be slower than they actually are. I have missed many shots by being too casual about it.

A basic rule, never photograph an animal from behind doesn’t always apply. My opinion though LOL.
