Snowy, Black And White

Standing above one of the ponds at the Middleton Plantation I noticed a small Snowy Egret working the water.

Some Snowy’s will fly along the waters surface, drag their feet, and flush out fish to catch. This one was serious about the routine and kept at it for a while.

At first I just watched, I was shooting monochrome with a short lens. After a bit I couldn’t stand it any more and shot to catch the action…long distance.

Middleton Plantation, Looking Over The Spring Colors

Down the hill, behind the brick wall, is a large pond surrounded by color. It’s part of the largest formal garden in the US.

Ellen and a guide of southern history, waiting for her visitors group to arrive. Both were just enjoying the view.

Once Burned, Monochrome Monday

Walk through an old pine forest and you will see the scars.

The trees are tall and strong, near the base are small damages, blackened areas, even indentations.

The forest was burned, but a control burn. Dead grass is missing, healthy tall plants are all around. Nothing for a wild forest fire to eat.
