This water isn’t very deep, even for a small Alligator.
In shallow water, especially with weeds, you can’t see but they walk along the bottom. Their huge claws make it easy.

The Lowcountry has been terribly dry, almost no rain. Now the southern heat has arrived. Fun is.
The weather is exactly what Anhinga love, and I’m thinking the Duck Weed does too.
That solid green throughout the photograph is water. Covered in Duck Weed, but still water. It looks solid enough to walk on doesn’t it.

Duck Weed is one of the smallest flowering plants in the world. It floats along the surface of still water and multiplies very fast.
He touched down nicely, but in fairness it wasn’t a long flight. The Tricolored was hopping along between various stands of brush over the swamp water. Some times he jumped others he flew a few feet.
Made for a nice landing shot though.

Here’s a factoid about alligators I didn’t know. The largest recorded gator is 19 feet, 2 inches. I had thought it was just under 14 feet. The length of a type A small school bus (mini bus) is 20 feet. 😳
That is one huge Alligator 😳. I’m around them a lot, but I still can’t imagine one that big.

There were plenty of Green Herons around the other day. And as usual most were surrounded by grass and branches.
In keeping with my usual lack of patience I kept moving and suddenly a hole opened up. Not perfect, leaves in and out with the breeze, but I did have a chance at a few shots.
