No longer in use, leaning to the right, a lighthouse has been here 1789. Just prior to the US Civil War the lights here were destroyed by the federal government rather than have it be taken by the confederacy.
The great Charleston earthquake of 1886 damaged the structure but it was repaired enough to be put back in use. Finally in 1960 the land had been washed away and the light decommissioned.
That is such a lovely image, full of atmosphere.
