General Hagood, Magnolia Cemetery

While large parts of the Magnolia grounds were set aside for local soldiers killed in the Civil War other veterans  are interred here.

Close to the marsh is a well tended stone. General Hagood was a known well known career soldier, until he spoke against US policy.  Generals were expected to support with comment.

We could probably use a few more like him today.

The Same But Different, Pelican

A quick shot from a Florida Mangrove Swamp.

At first I thought to get a basic image of the cluster of White Pelican.

This Brown Pelican came in low and made a probable  ‘throw away’ photograph interesting.

The photographs tell the story, very clearly. Our timing was perfect with the tide and wind.

Brown Pelicans hunt schools of fish different than other Pelicans. First they search the water from up high.

Next a turn to line up with their prey.

Full speed, head first to grab their prey.

It’s loud, quick, and really exciting to watch.

And he did. As usual the action was more posturing and noise. True fighting is typically avoided.

A Loud Red-shouldered Hawk

I have frequently mentioned how ‘talkative’  the Red-shouldered Hawks are. Well, here is one that could not stop calling out.

I shot a full series and almost all the shots (20) had his mouth open and calling.
