Black-bellied Whistling Ducks

Black-bellied Whistling Ducks

A few newcomers to the neighborhood.

Whistling Ducks have slowly moved north with the warming climate. To me it seems the movement has become faster. Not long ago, maybe 4 years, they were rare to see even in the Basin.  They have moved into the swamps around Charleston.

This was taken on a foggy morning. I was looking for hawks out over the swamp, instead a small group of Whistlers was perched out there.

A large and pretty duck, that actually does whistle.
