This, and a train running through the middle of Main Street.

The pedestal clock and train tracks cutting across Main Street was one of my first impressions when I started to photograph small southern towns. The railroad tracks always reminded me of the movie ‘In The Heat Of The Night’. I was born and raised in NYC so it was all new.
Now on a quiet night, sitting on my back porch, I can hear the train passing off in the distance. And yes, it cuts right across Main Street.
To be sure, quiet nights and nostalgic moments are our best bet in maintaining sanity in our upside down world. I’m finding I’m retreating more and more to our patio and yard overlooking the riverbed. And it’s an extra treat to see the squirrels and the rabbits scampering about and even a hawk soar over the riverbed. Nature and good memories can be so therapeutic. I am grateful.
I could not have said it better 👏👏👏
Small town life sounds very appealing about now.
I had never lived in one before we moved here. Coming from NYC the suburbs were rural. Now my town is not small, everyone wants to move down here, but we live on the edge. Close to swamps and marshes, but Charleston is only 15 miles away. At night the owls visit, day time has the big Kites over head and plenty of small critters. We will probably stay here 😂😂
Best of both worlds I’d say😊
