This is one of several Angels watching over the Gibbs family grave sites in Charleston, South Carolina.
The mausoleum is built into an earthen berm on the Ashley River. The statues and other carvings were ordered long before James Shoolbred Gibbes was buried there. Other family were interred over time.

The largest art museum in Charleston was funded by the Gibbs family in 1909 with funds from James Gibbs.
