Found on a walk in the Biggins graveyard, 1711-1890.
This old church was one of ten Anglican parishes formed by the Carolina Act of 1704 and the Church Act of 1706.
St. Johns Parish, in Berkley County South Carolina is an area that is filled with ruins, history, and incredible stories. Many of the ruins and their stories have been published on this site over the years. Biggins was one of the last places we had not visited until recently. I think as I go through the photographs from the other day I might try to place links tying some of the incredible pieces together, like wars, lost treasure, and history preserved.

Family plot, 1800’s, Biggins Church Ruins, Moncks Corner, South Carolina found on a walk.
I like to visit old church yards and cemeteries. There is a peacefulness about them, and also a lot of history. I find them fascinating
When I first moved here we met a group of historians. That took my photography in a different direction ๐. In this area of the south you can literally walk among, and touch, the past. Reading a NY Times best seller based on historical fact, then meeting the actual families and wandering around the properties is a unique experience. Makes things real, no longer abstract.
That must have been a wonderful experience, especially when the past meets the present and it all comes together perfectly ๐
Wow, the gravestone tells a lot of stories. Beautiful!
The stories are all around us in this area of the Lowcountry (southern US). This cemetery and church ruins are directly related to chapels down the road, which was created by old plantations which…etc. LOL
Wow! ๐ฎ
Thanks ๐๐๐
