Wrought Iron Fleur De Lis

Wrought Iron Fleur De Lis

A common theme in wrought iron design in the Lowcountry is the Fleur De Lis, a symbol adopted by French Royalty in the 12th century.

I don’t know why it’s so common around town and the plantations, however the wealthy planters always wanted to show off their status. It makes sense from that point of view.

Magnolia Plantation still has large sections of old wrought iron fencing. These shots were taken as I went down the steps from the large front porch.
