Considering the light I kept this shot. I always like a white bird photographed on a contrasting background. I just find it hard to get the right balance.

Yes, it was the golden hour. And, plenty of browns and rusts to add to the glow.
Part of the initial mating ritual for the male Great Blue Heron is to bring the ‘perfect’ stick to his new mate.
Part of the female ritual is to throw a few away.
It’s going to be a busy 4 months so she needs to set the rules right from the start.

The images from the very end of a day, especially here, can go either way. Most have too much grain. The bird and reflection here compensated for that,
