I could not have picked a better location for a black and white series. Old rustic cabins, with all the raw wood textures and shadows had everything I needed.
Everything except an obvious finishing style. I played with very light surfaces, high key, probably most options I could think of.
Eventually I just went with this, a harsh grain.
And yeah, I even included the ‘out buildings’.
Hoping these will motivate me to get up and out early in the morning.
If this doesn’t work nothing will.
The grounds of this Trappist Monastery and Abby were once the Mepkin Plantation (1762) in South Carolina.
The first photograph here was taken at just about the perfect halfway point of this walk. Of course the first sign of a storm came there too.
This is an old dike with marsh on the left, and ahead. The Ashley river on my right flows down into Charleston, South Carolina.
This storm never did hit, it moved over us quickly. Which was great even though it might have cooled us for a few minutes.
The humidity from a quick midday storm can be brutal, it was already probably about 80% here.
Even on a slow day a walk like this can get us photo ops with Herons, Eagles, Egrets, and of course Alligators.
No high drama, but it sure is pretty.

The location has been in use for a yearly revival camp for over 200 years.
This was taken as the sun broke over the few clouds that we had.
Dawn started a little slow. After a while it did perk up some.
