I always had this picture in my mind of what the south, and the southern swamps would look like. I’m a born and raised NYC Yankee. My expectations were probably based on TV in the 1960’s.
Well, below is about what I thought it would be.

The juvenile Black-crowned Night Herons seemed to have taken up residence in the dead trees in this marsh.
I’m not sure where a Night Heron rookery is in this area. I do know of a small Snowy nesting spot. Given the number of times I find these young Herons they must be from a nearby location. Something to keep in mind next spring.
