Barn Owl, A Shoot At Birds Of Prey
A resident at the Center For Birds Of Prey. I am not sure how he was hurt but the center is his home now. One of the lucky ones.
Barred Owl, Swamp Light
Recently we made several trips to swamps that are darker and denser than our usual places. Getting light and working around the reflected colors is still a work in progress.
I have several days of Owl photographs to finish but I see it may be easier than I thought. Most can just be deleted after the first pass. Duplicates and color distortions are throughout the images.
This is the first photograph from the trips. Instead of hiding far out into the swamp this one was right on the edge hunting in shallow water.

South Carolina Wild Hog
Wild pigs have been present in coastal South Carolina since they were released by the Spanish in the 1500s. Their historic range was geographically limited to floodplains of major river systems. In the mountains of the state, Eurasian wild hogs were introduced in the early 1900s.
We came across 2 but only photographed this one. We have seen hogs in this same marsh location before.
This one was most interested in the warm sun. However, a few minutes later heard us and moved back into the tall grass.
While they will run when seeing people I don’t really want to bump into any while out on the dikes…which is almost right behind the hog.

Alligator Breathing Through The Ice
The national news has been filled with an image of a poor Alligator breathing through a hole in the ice. South Carolina has a few right in the Charleston area.
Here is a photograph taken in the Donnelly Wildlife Management Area. This particular Alligator had a spot large enough for his head.
Other Side Of The Tracks
When we crossed the tracks here we found abandon gas stations. Not unheard of.
It was interesting that the empty gas stations were directly across the street from each other.
At some point there must have been enough traffic to support them. Now, both are empty, as well as the street.
