Perhaps my favorite landmark, and spot, in Charleston.
For many years one of my favorite songs, a hymn actually, has been Amazing Grace. The Joan Baez version in particular. The song was written here, in the sanctuary, of the Circular Church.

Co-founded with Charles Towne, 1680β1685, by the English Congregationalists, Scots Presbyterians, and French Huguenots of the original settlement. The church members were called the ‘Dissenters’.
Over the years fire, earthquakes, and even cannon balls have damaged the church. Each time it has been repaired.
Thank you Ted, for sharing this great B&W photo. Now I know where that song, so beautifuly sung by Joan Baez, comes from.
My pleasure. I went to a concert there the day before I shot this. Acoustics, in this round church and ceiling, was better than any recording studio. The tales from this spot alone fill a history text book π
Thanks for sharing
And I appreciate the visits.
