An earthen mausoleum, ancient names called them barrows or burial mounds. Though this is certainly more ornate. Built by an old Charleston family going back to the original settlers from Barbados.

I’ve always thought this spot was perfect to be photographed using the old sepia colors and look.

Charleston, South Carolina.
Angels set against a backdrop dripping with Spanish Moss are really quite something! Lovely.
The epitome of the old south. 😃
Spooky beautiful.
That’s a great description, thanks.
Love these old cemeteries.
I’ve never seen anything like them. Real Victorian and Gothic design, old families with names I know, just magnificent.
There is a cemetery in Brooklyn, maybe where Houdini Is buried that comes close though.
Machpelah Cemetery In Queens. I’ve never been there. I should check it out.
That’s the one. Halloween night is most interesting. Houdini’s will is said to have a reward for anyone who meets him on that night. And yes, of course I’ve gone LOL
I have to keep this is mind for this year.
The cemetery in Brooklyn I was thinking of is Green Wood cemetery. Early 1800s and has a large number of gothic and Victorian works. Wikipedia has great historical background on it.
