One of the open water areas of the Donnelley WMA in the ACE Basin yesterday.
I think the temperature was close to 70 degrees (21 C) by mid day. Usually not a big deal but this week it was.
If you look close you will find Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets, and White Pelicans.
What you will not find is an Alligator, not a single one. This spot has one of the heaviest concentrations in the south. Not yesterday, they stayed in bed for the day.
There was no way for a different angle. Also it was only a matter of time before they either turned away, or did a complete exit.
There were probably 50 – 60 individual birds in this group so I didn’t move, I wanted as many shots as possible.
Eventually they turned away towards the far side of the creek. There were multiple groups like this, we moved to a close by open spot and watched them in flight for a while.
The big creek here doesn’t have a lot of people around. The Pelicans will take flight however they tend to move up and down the open water not leaving the area. It’s a safe haven for them.
