Found on a walk grave site near a marsh. Magnolia Cemetery, Charleston.

This stone was not in the military, Soldiers Ground, cemetery. George Hughes died in the 1890’s, long after the Civil War. The stone is under a large tree just off the banks of this marshland.

The 7th Cavalry was from the Beaufort, Colleton area of South Carolina. This is closer to Savannah, GA than Charleston.
