A few photographs here, random quick shots. Many times we take these for reference later on. Helps with being sure what we identified, flock sizes, just ‘stuff’ really. I find them interesting and thought to publish a few for perspective of places we shoot.

First photo is a pair of Great Egrets chasing each other. This could premating season interest or territorial. In the background is a Hooded Merganser duck swimming by.

Next a ‘group meetup’. There is a number of different species making me think they had found small schools of fish right there. The group includes Great Egrets, Great Blue Heron, Roseate Spoonbill, Snowy Egrets, White Ibis (adult and juvenile), and a few Mergansers.

Below is the common scene here of a solitary Great Blue wandering the marsh, watching for fish or crabs. These Heron are more comfortable alone.

Last an image I shot way too wide. I could have zoomed out further for a better look… hind sight LOL. This is a flock of what appear to be a mixture of Godwits and Dowitchers. Both species have unusually long bills. Bad photo, nice birds.

All the above were taken in an old large rice field at Donnelley WMA, South Carolina.  This location is an example of a plantation rice field with no permanent house. When thinking of plantations we usually associate big old white house with front porches. In reality that would have been the plantation home, fields would have been anywhere they owned land. Some huge rice fields were far from the houses.
